Facebook ads agencyThree ways to run Instagram ads
Boosting in the app is the fastest route; Meta Ads Manager gives the most control. The AgentFabrica panel sits in between: it simplifies setup, then watches the ad with rules you write.
| Topic | Boosting a post | Meta Ads Manager | AgentFabrica panel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where you do it | Instagram app or instagram.com | Ads Manager | Auto Ads screen in the panel |
| Objective | Goal: profile visits, website visits or messages | One of six objectives | Sales, leads, traffic or awareness |
| Audience | Automatic or your own | Location, demographics, interests, custom and lookalike audiences | Age, location and interests; ready audience templates |
| Pre-launch check | None | Up to you | Tracking, creative, margin, conversion history and budget check |
| Monitoring after launch | Post insights | By hand or with Meta's automated rules | Rules evaluated every 30 minutes |
What you need before you start
- 1Switch your Instagram profile to a professional account; personal accounts cannot run ads.
- 2Choose an ad account. On your first boost, Instagram asks which ad account to use; you can pick an existing Facebook ad account or keep the two separate.
- 3If sales or forms on your site will be measured, install the Meta Pixel; ideally send server events through the Conversions API as well.
- 4Add a payment method to the ad account.
- 5Check that the landing page loads fast and says the same thing as the offer in the ad.
Choosing the campaign objective
The objective decides who Meta shows the ad to. A Traffic campaign optimises for clicks; if you want sales, you need the Sales objective. Meta's choose an objective page lists six.
| Meta objective | What it is for | In the panel |
|---|---|---|
| Awareness | Reaching the most people likely to remember the ad | Awareness |
| Traffic | Sending visits to a website, profile or shop | Traffic |
| Engagement | Messages, likes or a chosen action | Not available; set it up in Ads Manager |
| Leads | Collecting contact details through forms, messages or calls | Leads |
| App promotion | App installs or in-app actions | Not available |
| Sales | Finding people likely to buy | Sales |
Audience and placements
- Core targeting: location, age, gender and interests.
- Custom audiences: site visitors, your customer list or people who engaged with your account.
- Lookalike audiences: new people similar to your existing customers.
- Placements: Feed, Stories, Reels and Explore; Meta can also distribute delivery across placements itself.
The panel has 23 ready audience recipes, with those that fit your sector shown first. Interest IDs are not hard-coded; they are looked up on Meta each time, and the reach range comes from Meta's own estimate.

Ad review and the learning phase
| Stage | What happens | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Review | Meta checks creative, text, targeting and landing page against its Advertising Standards; most ads are reviewed within 24 hours | Watch the status in the Delivery column; editing the ad restarts review |
| Learning | The delivery system explores how best to deliver the ad set; costs are unstable | Avoid significant edits, they reset learning |
| Leaving learning | Delivery stabilises after about 50 results in a week since the last significant edit | Make decisions on data from this point on |

Who watches the ad after launch
The real work starts once the ad is live: which set got expensive, which one should grow. Rules you write in the panel are evaluated every 30 minutes and, when a threshold is crossed, pause the campaign, raise or lower the budget, or only send a notification.
- Frequency rule: alerts you when people have seen the ad more than 5 times on average in the last 7 days, the first sign of creative fatigue.
- Cost per conversion rule: pauses a campaign above your target, or asks for your approval first.
- Funnel metrics: you can also write rules on 3-second hook rate, link click-through, add-to-cart and purchase rate.
- Ad Assistant reads the account and suggests decisions; the suggestions you approve or reject shape the next ones.
- To answer people who comment "price" on the ad in private, set up an Instagram DM automation rule; Meta supports private replies on ad posts too.
- To report the results to a client, see the Facebook ads report page.
Frequently asked questions
How do you run ads on Instagram?
Switch to a professional account and link an ad account. Then boost a post in the app, or build a campaign in Meta Ads Manager by choosing objective, audience, budget and creative. In the AgentFabrica panel you pick the goal and budget and approve the strategy.
Do I need a business account for Instagram ads?
Yes. According to Instagram Help, you need to switch your profile to a professional account before boosting.
Should I boost or use Ads Manager?
Boosting is quick, with goals such as profile visits, website visits or messages. If you want a conversion objective like sales or leads, custom audiences and detailed budget control, Ads Manager or the panel fits better.
How long does Instagram ad review take?
According to Meta, most ads are reviewed within 24 hours, though it can take longer. Ads can also be reviewed again while they are running.
What does Meta check in an ad?
Images, video and text, targeting, the page the ad links to and special ad categories, all against its Advertising Standards. Review starts automatically when you create or edit an ad, and you can see the status in the Delivery column of Ads Manager.
What is the learning phase and how long does it last?
It is the period in which the delivery system explores how to deliver the ad set. According to Meta, an ad set usually exits it after about 50 results in a week since the last significant edit.
Will my Instagram ad also show on Facebook?
If placements are not restricted, as in campaigns opened from the panel, Meta distributes delivery across Facebook and Instagram. To run on Instagram only, choose placements manually in Ads Manager.
Will AgentFabrica publish the ad for me?
The panel prepares the strategy and, after your approval, creates the campaign, ad set and ad in your Meta account. The campaign starts paused and you start delivery. After that, your rules run every 30 minutes.
