What makes a good Instagram caption

The caption is the text under a post. In the feed, often only the first lines are visible and the rest sits behind “more”. That makes the first sentence a second hook, right after the image.

  • Hook: the line that stops the reader.
  • Body: one benefit of the product or topic, in short sentences.
  • Call to action: a single ask that changes with your goal (comment, save, message, buy).
  • Hashtags: tags that fit the topic and stay within the platform's range.

Length and hashtag range by platform

The same caption does not work everywhere. When you pick a channel, the tool pulls length and hashtag count into that channel's range. The ranges are recommendations, not technical limits: X allows 280 characters, but the tool stops at 260 to leave room for a tag or a link.

Longest recommended caption per channel
Instagram1,200 ch
TikTok300 ch
LinkedIn2,000 ch
Facebook800 ch
X260 ch
YouTube1,500 ch

Values come from the product's scoring rules (upper end of the character range). Technical limits differ by platform; LinkedIn allows 3,000 characters per post and X allows 280.

Recommended character and hashtag range
ChannelCharactersHashtags
Instagram120 to 1,200 characters3 to 5 hashtags
TikTok60 to 300 characters2 to 6 hashtags
LinkedIn400 to 2,000 characters0 to 4 hashtags
Facebook100 to 800 characters0 to 5 hashtags
X40 to 260 characters0 to 3 hashtags
YouTube200 to 1,500 characters3 to 8 hashtags

More tags do not help. YouTube ignores every hashtag on a video that has more than 60; the tool suggests 3 to 8 tags for YouTube.

Where brand tone and banned words come from

With “use brand knowledge” switched on, the tool searches the brand's saved information for the most relevant passages and grounds the caption in them. The brand's phrases to avoid and learned bans go into generation, and every caption also passes a safety scan.

  • Brand voice and phrases to avoid are defined in the brand agent.
  • The “why this approach” panel shows how many brand documents the caption relies on.
  • The safety summary flags sentences with claims banned in your industry.

Quota and next steps

Each generation and each part regeneration uses one caption credit. The free plan includes 10 a month. Starter includes 170 a month, Pro 300, Pro 5 Brands 900 and Enterprise 1,800. Compare plans on the pricing page.

Who it suits

  • Social media teams who write every caption from an empty box.
  • Brands that want one tone across captions written by different people.
  • Agencies that write the same topic six times for six channels.

Frequently asked questions

Which channels does caption generation support?

Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, X and YouTube. Picking a channel adjusts length and hashtag count to that channel's recommended range.

Where does it get the brand tone?

From the brand's saved information, voice and list of phrases to avoid. If “use brand knowledge” is off, only the on-screen settings are used.

How many variants does it produce?

You choose 2, 3 or 5 per run. The variation style changes the tone, the hook, the call to action or the whole caption.

Can I change only the hook?

Yes. The hook can be regenerated, shortened or strengthened; body, call to action and hashtags can each be regenerated too. Each part regeneration uses one credit.

Does a high score mean more engagement?

The score does not say that. It measures rule compliance only: length, hashtags, hook, call to action and banned claims.

Which language are captions written in?

Turkish. For other markets, adapt the caption with the multilingual translation tool.

How many captions can I generate?

The free plan includes 10 a month. Starter includes 170 a month, Pro 300, Pro 5 Brands 900 and Enterprise 1,800.
